New Chapter

In 1943, Grant Ed Taylor married Ida Bell Dickens and they moved from Como, Mississippi to Dundee, Mississippi. At the time of their marriage Mom (Ida Bell Dickens) was a mere fourteen while Dad (Grant Ed Taylor ) was twenty - four. Father (Grant Ed Taylor) worked as a store clerk in the small town of Dundee. They were extremely happy although Dad had been married, illegally to another woman.(The matter was later settled when Dad entered the U.S. Army.) In June 1944, Grant Taylor was drafted into the military. While Dad served his country, Mom gave birth to their first child, a son - Grant Taylor Jr. Grant Taylor Jr. was born May 7, 1945. Although Mom had not considered ever having children, she was astonishingly happy to have a child by the only man she had ever loved. In 1948, their first daughter, Ida Mae, was born. She was affectionately called "Sister" by her father. (Dad had called his sister, Mattie Mae, by the same name. I've found that it was traditional to do that in that time - age - generation.) Following the entry of the first two children, ten others followed: Earline, Earnestine, Floyd, Carrie, Thelma, Jane, Mary, Sallie, Zachary and Anthony.
